Handmade Moroccan ceramics in the Ourika Valley
Our Story

It started with two friends and a love for handmade things.

Tafrana began with Youssef and Oussama, two friends who shared the same fascination with handmade objects, Moroccan homes, and the feeling that a beautiful piece does not have to be perfect to have a place in your home.

They did not start with a big plan. They simply found themselves talking more and more about Moroccan craftsmanship, ceramics, tableware, and the people behind the pieces.

Ceramics were already part of their lives.

For Youssef, handmade ceramics were something he had known since childhood. During summer holidays, he would spend time with his uncles, watching them work with clay and create handmade ceramics and tableware.

He grew up around the workshop, the tools, the clay, and the conversations that came with making things by hand. What was simply part of his childhood slowly became something he appreciated in a different way as he grew older.

Oussama had a similar connection. His grandfather was a M3allem — a master craftsman — and handmade work was also something he grew up seeing and understanding.

Years later, Youssef and Oussama found themselves coming back to the same thing: Moroccan handmade products and the people who spend their days making them.

They wanted to create something of their own — not to change what already existed, but to give these pieces another way to travel.

From Morocco, to homes around the world.

That is where Tafrana came from.

A small idea between two friends became a way to work with Moroccan makers, discover beautiful designs, and share pieces that still feel connected to where they come from.

Our ceramics are made in Morocco, with each piece carrying the small marks that come from being made by hand. Some pieces are shaped differently. Some have slightly different colors or textures. We keep those differences because they are part of the process.

Today, Tafrana is our way of bringing these pieces beyond the workshop and into homes elsewhere — while keeping the connection to the people and places where they began.
